Program Department (DP)
Do zadań Działu Programowego należy koordynowanie działań programowych Narodowego Instytutu Kultury i Dziedzictwa Wsi, a wśród nich opracowywanie tematów badawczych oraz grantów naukowych.
At the moment, in cooperation with other entities (cultural institutions and specialists in ethnography and ethnology) within the framework of the Ethnographic Research Team, carrying out its statutory tasks, i.e. initiating and supporting scientific research, the Program Department is conducting a research project called "Ethnomosaic. Modern Rural Cultural Heritage", which is designed to collect field material (interviews, photographs) on the modern legacy of traditional culture, according to the key of 16 provinces. The result of this research will be a study in the form of a multi-volume publication, describing the folk culture of all provinces, but also an archival resource, made available in the public domain.
A significant part of our activity oscillates around two grant programs, of which we are the coordinator, intended for folk artists, namely the "Master Apprentice" program and the Scholarship Program for Folk Artists aimed at folk artists, handicraftsmen and craftsmen. The aim of both programs is to save local heritage and traditions through support that enables individual creativity, rooted in the local community, with a focus on skills and content in danger of disappearing, or the transmission of knowledge and skills related to handicraft techniques, crafts or singing and dancing. On our own initiative or in cooperation with other institutions, we also organize scientific conferences, related to rural heritage in the broadest sense, in historical, ethnographic aspects, referring to current research and trends in rural development (for example, a conference related to rural tourism). Support for young scientists is provided by the Roots and Wings competition, designed for master's and doctoral students who have taken up topics in various fields, related to the broadly understood rural culture in a historical and contemporary perspective. We also maintain our own databases of housewives' circles, folk artists, folk ensembles and NGOs related to rural heritage, which are invited to NIKiDW for our events. We also write texts for "Village Culture," interview artists, scholarship recipients, winners of the "Roots and Wings" contest, and give interviews on radio and television, related to the ceremonial year and other topics oscillating around the village. Our daily routine involves contacts with, on the one hand, folk artists, singing groups and bands, Rural Housewives' Circles, on the other hand, with scientists: ethnographers, ethnologists, historians, dealing with the heritage and culture of villages. We are open to contacts and cooperation related to the promotion of rural heritage and folk and traditional culture.
