Handicraft Workshop series full of excitement and new skills

In March and April of this year, the NIKiDW Regional Office in Częstochowa conducted the second edition of the highly popular series of Handicraft Workshops for Rural Housewives' Circles. This time we hosted with invited folk artists in six counties.

Each time, the ladies explored with great interest the secrets of various handicrafts, which in a practical sense they often came into contact with for the first time. However, they approached the tasks with great commitment, and the effects aroused admiration and appreciation, and gave the authors a lot of satisfaction.

We started in Janów (Częstochowa County), where at the Local Government Culture and Sports Center Mr. Waclaw Zablocki presented wood carving techniques and gave historical trivia, anecdotes and hints about which species of trees are best suited for the work. The ladies made birds and faces (or angels for those willing) in bark.

Then we moved to Naklo Slaskie (Tarnogórski district). There, in the charming and hospitable premises of the Silesian Cultural Center, under the guidance of Ms. Grazyna Fili, classes were held on how to make kroszonki, or Easter decorations made from egg shells prepared by scratching, characteristic of the Opole region, where the artist comes from.

Another meeting took place in Panki (Klobuck district), where the local KGW lent hospitality. Here the hostesses faced a completely different technique, a method of arranging flowers from wood shavings, characteristic of the Koziegłowy area. Dyed aspen wood spoons were transformed in the hands of novice artists into beautiful cornflowers, poppies, field bouquets and bouquets. Folk artist Anna Grzywna supervised everything.

The visit to the Janusz Gniatkowski Municipal Cultural Center in Poraj (Mysore County) had yet another character. Ms. Iwona Monikowska from Lelow intrigued the participants with a story
about traditional folk mothball dolls, with elements of history, legends and... psychology.
All the listeners then made their own mothball dolls, whose traditional feature, which
was believed in the old days, is granting wishes. When selecting materials for dresses and accessories, there was a lot of fun.

Katarzyna Jurkowska and Anna Cebula from the Association "Wiejska Pracownia Rękodzielnicza - Sielskie Sioło" are lovers of traditional weaving, who conduct classes on a daily basis at their headquarters
in Garnek in the municipality of Kłomnice. This time they went all the way to the Municipal Cultural and Sports Center in Ogrodzieniec (Zawiercie County) to share their knowledge and passion with local village housewives. The work on the weaving grids was full of positive impressions, and the results were met
with appreciation in the eyes of the leaders themselves.

The latest installment of the series took place in Wozniki (Lubliniec County). In the Municipal and Communal Cultural Center there, Mr. Jan Michalski, a master weaver, shared his knowledge, experience and impressive skills with
. Under his supervision and thanks to his valuable advice, the ladies hand-woven beautiful baskets, baskets and cones from previously prepared materials.
The results of the first steps of the participants in this not easy field of handicrafts sometimes infuriated
. The presenter, seeing the commitment, encouraged the hostesses to continue their adventure with wicker.

All activities and integration were fostered by delicacies prepared by ladies from local Rural Housewives' Circles in, respectively: Pabianice, Orzech, Panki, Jastrzębie, Fugasówka
and Babienica.

We will inform about the next editions of meetings with folk artists for Circles on our website and social media.
