The 58th edition of the National Festival of Folk Bands and Singers is behind us

On the main stage, for 3 days, the annual competition featured folk bands, singing groups, solo instrumentalists, solo singers and masters with their students. In the same Large Market, visitors could admire the stands of folk artists and watch the artists at work.

The festival newspaper "Burczybas" highlighted the efforts of the organizers, who encouraged soloists and singing groups to include ritual songs in their repertoires as well, due to the disappearance of certain genres of folklore. Representatives of each region were also encouraged to perform in the folk costume of their own cultural area.

Kazimierz presented the best, who competed for the main prize in their category - the Baszta statuette, introduced as the highest prize in 1976. The festival introduced the audience to a unique atmosphere, beautiful sounds, wonderful costumes and a vivid picture of what is most important - multi-generationalism.

The announcement of the results of the competition was preceded by a solemn mass in the parish church, after which the artists in folk costumes, playing traditional instruments, marched in a procession to the stage in the Kazimierz market square.

More than 600 artists from 12 provinces took part in this year's edition. On Sunday, at the end of the event, the Baszta was handed out. Among the bands, the winner was Jan Szymanski's band from Albinowo (Lodz voivodeship). The men's singing group Porębskie Chłopy from Porąbka Uszewska (Małopolskie voivodeship) received the Baszta in the category of singing groups. The best instrumental soloist was Kazimierz Marcinek from Nockowa (Podkarpackie voivodeship). Among solo singers, the jury did not award the Baszta; the first place went to eight artists equally.

Come back next year!
