Polonaises were already created by Baroque composers, including Johann Sebastian Bach. At the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, like Italian and French dances, it began to be very fashionable. Due to its nobility it reigned at European courts. Today in Poland it is a traditional dance that opens school balls, such as proms. It is also danced during other important celebrations and anniversaries.
